Daughters of the Mangrove

Fiction feature film, 100 min, work in progress
Directed by Stella Carneiro

Itamar, a middle-aged black man, is the father of four young daughters: Clementina, 13, Luma, 16, Eurídice, 20, and Simone, 23. When Simone, his eldest, receives a scholarship to study abroad, the family’s finances, which were already in trouble, become even more scarce. The other sisters see this as an opportunity to escape Itamar’s strictness. Each daughter finds her path, even if it means dying among the mud and roots of the mangrove swamp.
